On April 21, 2023, a conference was held at the Pobiedziska Cultural Center as part of the „GREEN-BLUE POBIEDZISKA” project, summarizing over a year of activities with a special focus on ecological and educational tasks. The speakers discussed climate change as a challenge for our cities, talked about trees as a natural phenomenon, and addressed the issues of protection and maintenance of lakes under current conditions.
The meeting was opened by Mayor Ireneusz Antkowiak, who presented the stages of implementing investment and educational tasks related to teaching about climate change and adapting to its effects. He also discussed developing ecological awareness through organizing contests, „World Cleanup Day” and „Earth Days”, publishing articles, issuing brochures and educational leaflets, and the annual National Educational Ecological Picnics. He noted that school gardens had been established in all schools, trees were planted, and meetings with naturalists and gardeners were organized. In conclusion, the Mayor presented actions related to communication and information, and investments in the Pobiedziska municipality carried out with particular care for climate protection and the preservation of existing greenery, also informing about newly planted trees and bushes and submitted funding applications in this area. He reiterated that the future of the Municipality is innovation respecting the natural environment and cultural heritage, as well as creating the best possible living conditions for residents.
Three distinguished speakers were present at the conference. Prof. Bogdan Chojnicki from the Bioclimatology Laboratory of the Poznań University of Life Sciences gave a lecture titled „Climate Change – a Challenge for Our Cities.”
Prof. Władysław Danielewicz from the Department of Botany and Forest Environment at the Poznań University of Life Sciences spoke about „Trees and the Natural Environment.”
Prof. Maciej Gąbka from the Department of Hydrobiology, Faculty of Biology, Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań discussed „Problems of Protecting and Maintaining Various Functional Uses of Lakes in Conditions of Climate Change.”
During the discussion, topics related to increasing the resilience of the Pobiedziska municipality to climate changes through the implementation of green-blue investments and improving ecological awareness among residents were addressed. Questions included whether Wielkopolska is already threatened by desertification, what our future will look like, and how we can prevent it? Are we already observing changes in biodiversity in the area resulting from climate change? Should we be prepared for more frequent and intense storms due to climate change? Is eutrophication a natural process, or is it true that every lake must eventually disappear? What is the water condition in the region?
